Police have few leads in an alarming burglary and sexual assault case that occurred in Navy housing early Monday morning.
Capt. Rick Wallace with the Oak Harbor Police Department said a resident of the 2100 block of Raven Drive fell asleep on her couch and awoke just after midnight to find a strange man fondling her.
She screamed and the man hit her twice in the face, then ran away out the back door.
Wallace said the 23-year-old woman, a Navy dependent, could provide only a vague description of the man. He was between 20 and 30 years old, possibly Hispanic or white, and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up.
Wallace said investigators don’t even know how the man got inside the home. The woman, who was home alone, thought she had locked all the doors and closed the windows before she fell asleep. There was no sign of forced entry.
The woman sustained bruising and swelling around her right eye.
Detectives continue to investigate the case. Wallace said anyone with any information should call police at 279-4600 or 911.
“There’s not much to go on at this point,†he said.
