Fun on the Fourth of July

Grab your sparklers and air horns. Fourth of July fun runs the length of Whidbey Island. You don’t have to wait for July 4 to arrive either. Here are some highlights:

The Oak Harbor Old Fashioned Fourth of July Grand Parade begins at 11 a.m. today on Pioneer Way.

Firefighters at Taylor Road Fire Station will served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m today. Adults $4.50, children 6-12 $2.50.

Oak Harbor Rotary dishes out pancakes and other good from 7:30 to 11 a.m, at the Armed Services YMCA on Pioneer Way. Adults eat for $4, children under age 12 eat for $3.

After the parade, be sure to hit Oak Harbor Senior Center’s annual old fashioned ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundaes cost $1 and ice cream cones cost 50 cents.

Food and vendor booths will be set up at City Beach Park on July 3 and 4 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Rubber Ducky Homemade Boat Regatta will set sail in the lagoon at City Beach today, July 3, at 3 p.m. Winners will receive cash.

On South Whidbey, Holmes Harbor fireworks in Freeland light up the sky just after dusk.

Chili chefs from Whidbey Island will spice up City Beach Park for the second annual Chili Cook Off at noon. Chili tasting will be open to the public from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m.
