Brian and Kathryn Wilson were hoping to celebrate their five-year wedding anniversary with childbirth.
However, he was a bit late and they welcomed their son, Cole Alan Wilson, on New Year’s Day. Cole was born at 1:03 p.m., Jan. 1 at the Whidbey General Hospital Family Birthplace. Cole weighed 9 pounds and was 20 inches in length at birth.
“We were hoping he would come on our anniversary,” Kathryn said. The Wilson’s celebrated their five-year anniversary Dec. 30.
He was due Dec. 22.
She had joked that she had hoped Cole would’ve been born shortly after the new year started.
Cole marks the first child for Brian and Kathryn. Brian is a crypto-technician stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. He is originally from Detroit, Mich. and Kathryn hails from Cleveland, Ohio.
Wilson’s birth caps a busy year for the Whidbey Family Birthplace, which delivered its first baby in 1991.
In 2013, the Whidbey Family Birthplace saw 181 babies born, which is an increase from 154 in 2012. The birth center saw 197 babies born in 2011.
Cole marks the first baby born on Whidbey Island in 2014.
Naval Hospital Oak Harbor saw its first baby born on Jan. 2.
Elijah Jamir Smothers was born at 9:07 a.m. Thursday. He was 7 pounds 6 ounces and 19.7 inches long.
He is the son of Master-at-Arms Seaman Recruit Marshella Smothers, who is from Memphis, Tenn.
She is stationed at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Security Department. His father is Fredarrian Robinson, who is from El Dorado, Ariz.
