A hospitable Coupeville resident will be able to share her home with visitors to the area.

The Coupeville Town Council approved a conditional use permit allowing resident Bridgit Smith to operate a one-room bed and breakfast out of her home in Peaceful Valley.

The bed and breakfast, which doesn’t have a name, will be located in a cul de sac on Glenwood Court.

“My true desire is to share my beautiful home,” Smith said during a recent town council meeting.

Some people were concerned about the restrictions that were placed on the project.

“Is that really necessary,” David Medley said during the meeting.

Town Planner Larry Kwarsick said the restrictions placed on the bed and breakfast help minimize the impacts of a business in a residential neighborhood. They also help resolve parking and traffic concerns raised by neighbors.

The restrictions range from prohibiting guests from parking on the public road to prohibiting a sign advertising her business.

“This seems a little bit stringent,” Councilman Marshall Bronson said.

Kwarsick said the sign restriction came from talks with Smith. She had said she didn’t want a sign for her home.

The town council unanimously approved the measure. They did delete the sign prohibition clause, giving Smith the option to add a sign.
