The Chimacum High School softball team tightened its grip on the Olympic League lead by beating host Coupeville 19-4 Monday, April 25.
The Cowboys are now 4-0 in conference play and 8-4 overall. Coupeville slipped to 2-3 and 7-6.
Chimacum combined 13 hits with six walks and four errors to roll by the Wolves, setting the tone with an eight-run third inning that gave the Cowboys a 10-1 lead.
Coupeville had only four hits but mixed them with several of nine walks to help score its four runs.
In the second inning, Kailey Kellner doubled and came around to score on Tiffany Briscoe’s sacrifice fly.
In the third, Lauren Rose and Hope Lodell led off with walks, and Rose scored on Sarah Wright’s ground out.
The Wolves scored their final runs in the fifth inning. Katrina McGranahan and Wright walked and Kellner singled in front of a two-run single by Veronica Crownover.
Coupeville goes to Klahowya (2-1, 7-5) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, and returns home to face Port Townsend (0-4, 0-9) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 29.
