The Coupeville High School husband and wife coaching tandem of Brett and Breanne Smedley resigned this week to return home to Vancouver, Wash.
Brett Smedley was the Wolves head football coach last fall after several years as an assistant.
Breanne Smedley led the Coupeville volleyball program for two years.
Both were recently hired to teach and coach at Columbia River High School, Brett Smedley’s alma mater.
Brett Smedley will be a football assistant while Breanne Smedley will coach the volleyball team.
“My time in Coupeville has been great,” Brett Smedley said Friday. “I have enjoyed the connections that I have made with such a great close knit community. The way that the Coupeville community has accepted us and made us feel a part of the family from day one four years ago is something that I am extremely thankful for.”
He added that the chance to return to Vancouver was something he “could not pass up.”
“To be able to give back to the community that helped to raise me is an opportunity that I am excited about,” Brett Smedley said.
Coupeville athletes are “tough” and “hard workers,” he added. “This work ethic and mentality is something that is their own and not something that is put there by a coach.
“I am excited to follow them through their seasons and watch the continued success that they will have in all aspects of their lives.
“Thanks Coupeville, and go Wolves.”
