Putting its first loss of the season in the rear-view mirror, the Coupeville High School softball team drove by visiting Friday Harbor 9-4 Saturday, April 15.
The Wolves lost to Chimacum earlier in the week but did not allow the setback to slow them down, picking up the non-league win over Friday Harbor (5-4).
Coupeville trailed 3-1 going into the fourth inning then exploded for seven runs to take control.
“We played our usual game and hit well after a sluggish start,” coach Kevin McGranahan said.
“The girls played as a team and kept fighting the way we all are used to seeing them fight.”
Veronica Crownover sparked the offense by blasting her first home run; Mikayla Elfrank added a triple.
Katrina McGranahan pitched a six-hitter with nine strikeouts, two walks and two hit batters.
La Conner (2-3) visits Coupeville (8-1) for a non-league game at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 20.
