Although they were shorthanded, both Oak Harbor High School track teams placed third in the eight-team Tomahawk Classic Saturday, April 29, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
A large portion of the team missed the meet because of other obligations, according to coach Jay Turner, but the Wildcats still put in a strong showing.
Arlington won the boys meet with 183 points, followed by Stanwood with 146 and Oak Harbor with 100. Arlington also won the girls meet, slipping by Stanwood 154-152. The Wildcats were next with 82.5, heading a group of four teams bunched within nine points.
Mac Nuanez (400, 52.44), Kyle Nickols (high jump, 6) and Andrew Miller (long jump, 19-07) picked up wins for the Oak Harbor boys.
Alexis Smith (1,600, 5:28.22) and the 4×200 relay of Alora Caillier, Jennifer Turnek, Jessica Cooley and Kaitlyn Chelberg (1:55.29) were winners among the girls.
Oak Harbor will host the North Sound Classic, a meet for junior varsity and freshman athletes, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2.
The Wildcat varsity team members will go to Stanwood for the Twilight Invitational at 4 p.m. Friday, May 5.
