Coupeville Town Hall is under construction for the next several weeks as it creates a more secure space for its marshal’s office.
The planning department and marshal’s office are switching locations in the building, and the public works department is enclosing a space with offices that lock, said Mayor Molly Hughes.
Because of the nature of police work, the marshal’s office needs more security for sensitive files and they also need a place where they can interview people in private, she said.
The remodel started last week with staff moving around and getting phone lines and computers moved out.
“Chris (Garden) and Leif (Haugen) are homeless for the time being,” Hughes said of the marshal and his deputy. “They can go to the sheriff’s office if they need a computer.”
“They’re being good sports about it.”
