Whidbey Camano Land Trust closed on property off Broadway Street and Black Road in Coupeville, protecting more than eight acres of land.

The property, owned by Arletta Uptegrove, is split into two “tracts.”

Tract 1, totaling 3.6 acres, is protected by a conservation easement allowing one home where the existing historic house is. No further development is allowed under the easement.

Adjacent to that tract is the second piece of property, which was donated to the Land Trust.

The second tract makes up nearly five acres of forested land on the corner of Broadway and Black Road.

“It will remain open-space forest and protects one of the entrances into the Town of Coupeville,” said Executive Director Pat Powell, who also serves on Coupeville Town Council. “It provides good wildlife habitat and keeps the scenic historic viewscape.”

Powell added that the property also complements Krueger Woods, which is located on the other side of Broadway and is owned by the town.
