The Coupeville High School tennis team moved closer to capturing the Olympic League 1A title with a 6-1 win over Klahowya in Silverdale Friday, Oct. 2.

The Coupeville High School tennis team moved closer to capturing the Olympic League 1A title with a 6-1 win over Klahowya in Silverdale Friday, Oct. 2.

The Wolves have now beaten the defending champion Eagles in the first two of their three-match series; the teams finish the series in Coupeville at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.

Coupeville still has three league matches with winless Chimacum/Port Townsend (0-1, 0-5); the first is on the road at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Klahowya (1-2, 2-8) topped Chimacum/Port Townsend 6-1 in their only meeting so far this fall.

Coupeville coach Ken Stange called the latest win over Klahowya “an improvement over our last match with them.”

The Wolves won the first clash 5-2 September 18.

 

Coupeville results against Klahowya Friday, Oct.2:

Singles: 1, Sebastian Davis won 6-0, 6-0; 2, Connor McCormick won 7-5, 6-1; 3, Cole Payne won 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.

Doubles: 1, John McClarin/Joseph Wedekind lost 6-3, 6-0; 2, Joey Lippo/Will Nelson won 7-5, 6-2; 3, Jimmy Myers/Lilan Sekigawa won 6-3, 6-1; 4, Grey Rische/Jared Helmstadter won 6-1, 6-2.

Coupeville’s Nile Lockwood and Aiden Crimmins won in JV doubles 6-1.
