With a 3-1 win at Chimacum Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Coupeville High School volleyball team remained in first place in the Olympic League with a perfect 4-0 mark.

The Wolves clubbed the Cowboys 25-7 in the first set, then suffered a hiccup, losing 25-23, before taking back control, 25-19, 25-16.

“We came on strong with our serving and got an early lead,” coach Cory Whitmore said. “We let up on that, they made some adjustments and got the momentum — our focus wasn’t all there.”

The Wolves “gained it back” and pulled out the win, he added.

“Katrina McGranahan had a great game serving, and, especially, attacking,” Whitmore said.

The junior middle recorded nine kills and five aces.

She was aided on offense by Hope Lodell (five kills, five aces), Payton Aparicio (five kills, eight aces), Lauren Rose (19 assists) and Ashley Menges (nine assists).

Valen Trujillo guided the defense with 13 digs. Lodell had nine and Ally Robert eight.

Coupeville (4-0, 6-2) plays Port Angeles (5-2) at home in a non-league game at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.
