Three individuals and two relay teams will represent Oak Harbor at the state 3A track meet Thursday through Saturday, May 24-26, at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School.
The Wildcats earned the state berths by placing in the top three at the district meet Wednesday and Friday, May 16 and 18, at Shoreline Stadium.
In team scoring at district, the Oak Harbor boys placed fourth out of 14 teams with 57 points. Arlington claimed the title with 132.
Shorecrest won the girls meet with 131 points; Oak Harbor was 10th with 33.
The only Wildcat win came in the boys 4×100. Jeff Gordon, Andrew Miller, Dorian Hardin and Taeson Hardin took the title with a time of 43 seconds, the sixth-best 3A mark in the state this season.
The Hardins and Miller teamed with then senior Jordan Washington to finish eighth at state in the 4×100 last year.
Mac Nuanez was third in the 400 (51.02), and Ozell Jackson took third in the triple jump (42-06.5).
Amaya Rittierodt placed second in the girls 100 (12.96) and joined Maria Dailey, Alora Caillier and Kia Ceya on the third-place 4×100 team (50.92).
Oak Harbor had a couple of tough breaks. Taeson was fifth in the 100 in 11.16, .03 off the automatic state qualifying time. He ran a 10.96 a week earlier, ninth-best 3A time this year.
Isaac Gomez was fifth in the discus (149-06) and will miss state even though he has the year’s ninth-best throw (150-08).
In the girls javelin, Lydia Dorsey was fourth (112). Earlier this spring she tossed the spear 124 feet, the fourth-best 3A mark in Washington this spring.
