Coupeville’s month of Halloween fun is coming to an end this weekend with a grand finale of events.
Back by popular demand, Fort Casey’s HAUNTED FORT is open 6:30-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the state park. Activities include 12 children’s games and a bounce house, as well as haunted fort tours for those ages 10 and older. Food vendors are Random Acts of Food and Tailgate BBQ. Tickets are available only at the venue and cost $7 per person; $25 per family of up to six people.
For a little less scary fun, the Pacific Northwest Art School is offering PUMPKIN PAINTING 12-2 p.m. Saturday. Bring your own pumpkin to decorate. Basic art supplies such as paint, glue and adornments will be provided. Local artists will be on hand to help. The school is located on Birch Street.
Later that day, several hundred people will gather at 5 p.m. at Cook’s Corner Park for the annual Halloween Torchlight PARADE. The parade begins at the park, going down Front Street and ending in front of the Island County Historical Museum. Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue will give free flashlights (torches) to the first 100 kids who are ages 10 and younger.
Awards are given for various costume categories and winners of the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce’s Scarecrow Corridor will be announced.
There are also two opportunities to boogie Saturday night.
Central Whidbey Hearts and Hammers is hosting a DANCE AND BENEFIT 8 p.m. at the Coupeville Rec Hall. The event will include a no-host bar, soft drinks and snacks. Tickets cost $10 per person; $20 if not in costume.
Sherman Pioneer Farm is also hosting a HALLOWEEN HOEDOWN, 8 p.m. at the farm. The event will feature a live performance by Jacob’s Road and The Charlies. Tickets cost a $10-$20 sliding scale donation. A donation of $10 or more gets you a free ticket to the haunted barn.
After an evening of dancing and fun, come on downtown for an afternoon of racing.
Coupeville’s GREAT PUMPKIN RACE is 2-5 p.m. on Alexander Street, between Coveland and Front streets. Prizes will be awarded for the Pumpkin Race Championship Trophy, as well as best decoration, most innovative design and best crash. The event is free.
This weekend is the final opportunity to visit the PUMPKIN PATCH and ride on the trolley at Sherman Pioneer Farms. The patch is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday with the trolley only operating on the weekend.
Saturday will be the last day to visit the CORN MAZE at Engle Family Farms by the old bowling alley on Terry Road. Try it with or without a map. Leave pets at home. Children ages 8 and under are free; all others cost $5.
That maze turns haunted 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Bring a flashlight and get spooked. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult; no children under age 8 permitted. The maze is for the faint of heart. Tickets are $10 per person; $5 for children ages 8-12; military discount with ID. Pre-pay at the Chamber of Commerce to receive a $1 discount.
The Shermans will also offer final tours of the family’s HAUNTED BARNS this weekend and Monday. There are kid-friendly and scary options. Cost is $10 or $5 for the children’s barn.
