There’s plenty of spooky things to do on Whidbey

OAK HARBOR

Horror Nights!

  • 7 p.m. to midnight, Friday, Oct. 19 and 26 and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 27, annual haunted house at the Roller Barn, 98 E. Barron Dr. Admission $13. Proceeds go to Boys and Girls Club of Oak Harbor.

Trick or Treat

  • 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, Welcome Home Memory Care, 235 SW 6th Ave., Oak Harbor. Visit with residents with your kids and family and bring a bag for tricks or treats!

Día de los muertos

  • 3:30- 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, Oak Harbor Library. Celebrate Día de los Muertos. Wear your best calavera or Catrina costume and join us for a fun-filled afternoon of Mexican crafts and a popular, Oscar-winning family film. For ages 5 and up. Free.

Lights On, No Scare

  • Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, Boys and Girls Club of Oak Harbor, 98 N.E. Barron Dr, Oak Harbor. Kiddie matinees are lights on, no scare walk-throughs. Kids and adults are invited for this guided tour. $4 per person

ComicFest

  • 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, fifth annual Halloween ComicFest at The Book Rack, 551 N.E. Midway Blvd, Ste 3, Oak Harbor. Free comics and goodies. Prizes awarded to the best adult and kid costumes.

No Tricks, Safe Treats

  • 5-7 p.m., historic downtown Oak Harbor. Costume contest with prizes, haunted bus, photo booth and treats. Presented by Oak Harbor Main Street Association.

Chamber of Secrets

  • 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, Chamber of Secrets Harry Potter-themed Halloween event. All ages welcome to enjoy this safe Halloween site. Treats as supplies last. Chamber of Commerce, 32360 State Highway 20, Oak Harbor.

NAS Whidbey Trunk or Treat

2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27. Enjoy the second annual Trunk or Treat at Fleet Reserve Branch 97. Put on by the Auxiliary, open to the public. There will be candy, games, face painting and costume contest.

Halloween Bash

  • 9 p.m. to midnight, Wednesday, Oct. 31, All Sports Bar and Grill, 1640 N. Goldie Street, Oak Harbor. Featured band is Ruby Jo & Those 3 Guys.

COUPEVILLE

“Practical Magic” Showing

  • 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, Masonic Lodge, 804 N. Main St., 20th anniversary showing of “Practical Magic,” starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, shot in Coupeville. $5 donation suggested.

4-H Haunted Petting Zoo

  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, Sherman’s Pioneer Farm, 46 S. Ebey Road. Learn about 4-H activities and see some “creepy creatures” decorated to scare by Island County 4-H Kool Kritters Club. They’ll be blood-curdling vampire rabbits, frightening demonic cats, guinea pig witches and more. Wear a costume.

Haunted Fort Casey

  • 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Fort Casey State Park, 1280 Engle Road. $8 per person or $30 for a family of up to six. Features Haunted Fort/Switchboard Tour for ages 10 to adult, games, ghost stories and bounce house. Discover Pass required.

Pumpkin Race

  • 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, Pumpkin Race, between Coveland and Front streets. Call 360-682-6400.

Batty Scarecrows

  • Through Oct. 30, grab a map at the Coupeville chamber or Coupeville Public Library, 788 NW Alexander St., and vote for your favorite scarecrows being displayed around town.

FREELAND

Halloween Howl

  • 3:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, board an Island Transit bus for a free twilight tour to Deception Pass State Park with Native American storyteller Lou Labombard, Sno-Isle librarian Jessica Aws and others for tales by a fire. Dress in costume, bring a flashlight. Call IT at 360-678-9536 to RSVP.

Blooms Winery Costume Party

  • 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, Blooms Winery, 5511 Freeland Ave.

LANGLEY

Monster Mash

  • 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, Island County Fairgrounds Pole Building, $10 for adults, $5 for children and $40 for families of five-plus. Last year, Whidbey Children’s Theater raised almost $14,000, over half raised by WCT children and youth ages 8-17. Funds raised go directly to WCT programming. Nachos and hot dogs, raffle, music, coloring contest, a tent of mysterious mystical musings and other fun and games. Costume parade at 4 p.m., Lip Synch Battle Royale begins at 6:15.

Get Mummified

  • 4-5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29, Langley Library, 104 Second St. Do you know how the ancient Egyptians created mummies? We’ll help you wrap your mind around mummies and other preserved people with fun activities. For ages 5-9.

Carnival & Concert

  • 6-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, carnival, 7:30 p.m. concert, at South Whidbey High School. Family fun includes ghoulish games, prizes, cake walk, face painting. Stay to enjoy spook-tacular hits and ghostly jams by the Middle School and High School bands. Wear a costume. Suggested 50 cents per game, $5 for concert admission. Sponsored by the South Whidbey Schools Performing Arts Boosters. All donations benefit middle school band program.

Spooktacular Trick-or-Treating

  • 2:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, trick-or-treat safely in shops and other stops in downtown Langley; 2 to 4 p.m. tricks or treats at South Whidbey Historical Society Museum, 312 Second St.

BAYVIEW

Goose Grocer Halloween Party

  • 3-6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, Goose Grocer, 14485 State Highway 525. Trick or treat, snack table, pumpkin carving, prizes.

Black Cat Ball

  • 7 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, Oct. 27, Bayview Hall, 5642 Bayview Road. Potluck and Dance featuring Krash Zen and DJ Soracat. $20 admission benefits Paint the Hall fund.

Halloween Pancake Breakfast

  • 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, Island Senior Resources, 14594 Highway 525. Halloween Pancake Breakfast benefits Meals on Wheels. Fluffy pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. Gluten-free option available. Costumes optional. Donation of $7 suggested for adults.
