James (Jim/Yogi) Hebert, 80, of Oak Harbor died Dec. 17, 2018 at home in Oak Harbor.
He was born in Auburn, Wash. on May 9, 1938 to Joseph and Maxine (Osborn) Hebert.
After graduating from high school, Jim worked at Boeing for a short time before entering the United States Navy where he served for 31 years.
He spent time in Vietnam and earned a commendation, traveled the world on carriers and retired after his last 12 years in Oak Harbor.
After his time in Vietnam, Jim was stationed in Bremerton, Wash., where he earned his associates degree through the Navy’s ADCOP Program.
At the beginning of Jim’s naval career, he met his future wife, Mary Ann Gebert, while serving in Kingsville, Texas. He married her on Aug. 14, 1959 in Alice, Texas, where she was born. They spent 48 years together before she passed away in 2007.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Rick) Reed of Mount Vernon, Wash.; son, James (Mary) Hebert Jr. of Inman, SC; granddaughter, Nicole (Eric) Hardwick of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandson, Justin (Miranda) Hebert of Eagle River, Alaska; and grandson, Blake Hebert of Inman, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Maxine Hebert; wife, Mary Ann Hebert; and brother, William (Bill) Hebert.
A memorial service will be held at Wallin Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 in Oak Harbor.
There will be a reception following the service at the VFW Post 7392.
