Central Whidbey Little League ran into a buzz saw in the opening round of the District 11 Major League all-star tournament Monday, July 8, at Oak Harbor’s Windjammer Park.
Five South Whidbey pitchers combined to toss a one-hitter to defeat Central Whidbey 6-0.
South Whidbey retired the first 11 Central Whidbey batters by strikeout and finished the game with 16 Ks and no walks.
Only two Central Whidbey batters reached base. Chase Anderson broke up the perfect game by reaching on an error with two outs in the fourth inning. Camden Glover singled with two outs in the fifth inning to break up the no-hitter.
Central Whidbey pitchers Landon Roberts, Jack Porter, Glover and Anderson were solid, allowing only seven hits and just two earned runs. Together they struck out eight and walked only one; they were hurt by four errors.
Central Whidbey faces the loser of Sedro-Woolley and Burlington at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, in an elimination game.
