North Whidbey no-hit in district opener / 10-12 baseball

The North Whidbey Major Little League all-star team was on the wrong end of a no-hitter in its opening game of the district tournament Tuesday, July 9, at Oak Harbor’s Windjammer Park.

North Whidbey lost 11-1 in four innings as three South Whidbey pitchers combined to toss the no-hitter.

North Whidbey’s elimination game with Anacortes Wednesday, July 10, was suspended in the top of the sixth inning because of darkness with Anacortes leading 21-9. The game will conclude at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 11.

If North Whidbey comes back to win the game, it will face Central Whidbey at 6 p.m. Thursday in another loser-out contest.

South Whidbey scored four runs in the first inning to set the tone in Tuesday’s contest. The winners finished with 10 hits, including three doubles and a triple.

North Whidbey scored its run in the second inning on walks to Meyer Brayden, Dylan Ebersberger, Gaven Gemmell and Maurice Walker.

Coop Cooper was the only other North Whidbey batter to reach base, earning a walk and getting on board with a fielder’s choice.
