The Deception Pass Sail and Power Squadron is offering a seven-week boat-handling course beginning Oct. 15.

The class will meet from 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday through Nov. 19 at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club.

The class in intended for both novices and those looking to refresh their boating skills.

This new course is a replacement for the seamanship course.

The class will cover rules of the road (a practical approach); confidence in docking and undocking (slow speed maneuvering); boating with confidence (handling your boat underway); anchoring with assurance (don’t get carried away); emergencies on board (preparation for handling common problems); and knots and line handling (the knots you need to know).

Free on-the-water training is available for students by request.

The cost is $60 for squadron members and $110 for non-members.
