The Oak Harbor High School boys cross country team finished 13th and the girls 15th at the Western Conference championship meet Saturday, Oct. 26, at Lakewood High School.
All 23 Wesco teams ran together regardless of classification. The Wildcat boys were seventh and the girls 10th among 3A schools.
Jackson captured the boys team crown with 61 points; the Wildcats tallied 332.
Glacier Peak took the girls team title with 111 points; Oak Harbor had 382.
Oak Harbor senior Dallas Riddle-Stevens was 12th (fourth among 3A runners) out of 209 in the boys race, running the 5,000-meter course in 16:23.6. Brenden Charbeneau won in 15:53.8.
Wildcat freshman Adrienne Root placed 22nd (11th among 3A runners and third among freshmen) out of 164 in the girls race in 29:01.4. Kamiak’s Emma Arceo finished first in 18:37.2.
“Both teams ran well today,” coach Eric Peterson said. “It was the end of the season for some kids and a fun meet to finish on. The varsity teams are starting their taper for next week, so today was a nice practice run for what we need to do next Saturday.”
Oak Harbor runs in the district meet Saturday, Nov. 2, at South Whidbey High School. The 3A girls start at 10:35 a.m.; the boys begin at 11:40. The top four teams and the 28 individuals qualify for the state meet.
