Winning a playoff match for the first time in school history, the Coupeville High School girls soccer team blanked Mount Baker 4-0 Saturday, Oct. 26, in a district play-in game at Mickey Clark Field.

“We finally broke through the playoff drought,” coach Kyle Nelson said.

The Wolves (3-12-2) move on in the postseason, going to Bothell to play Cedar Park Christian (8-6) at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in a loser-out match.

The Eagles defeated Coupeville 7-1 and 5-0 earlier this season.

If Coupeville wins, it will play Wednesday, Oct. 30, against the loser of Meridian (3-11-2) and King’s (12-4).

Not only did the Wolves collect their first postseason win, they scored their first playoff goal and several more. The four goals was also a single-game season high.

Sophia Martin hit two first-half goals, with assists from Mallory Kortuem and Carolyn Lhamon, to help the Wolves get off to a good start against the winless Mountaineers (0-17).

Anna Dion added a goal on an assist from Audrianna Shaw after the break, and Avalon Renninger finished the scoring with a long-range shot assisted by Lhamon.

Coupeville goalkeeper Mollie Bailey, with the help from her defenders, posted the shutout.
