William Ballenger Engle, 83, a lifetime resident of Coupeville, Wash., passed away surrounded by his family in Seattle, Wash. on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019. He was born at home on June 6, 1936 at 12:40 a.m. to William Carl and Anna Bess Engle.
He graduated from Coupeville High School with the class of 1954 and went on to attend Washington State University while also joining the Army Reserve.
Bill married Faye Marlene Borgman on June 30, 1956. They made their first home in Coupeville while he served as an active Army Reservist for eight years.
Young Billy was an active member of 4-H, Boy Scouts of America and Washington State Patrol Safety Program as well as a CHS Wolf for football, basketball and baseball.
Bill was a member of the Island County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, the Lions Club, the Elks Club as well as a council member for Living Hope Foursquare Church in Coupeville.
As a father, Bill continued his enjoyment of sports and horses by helping with his children’s sports teams and Horse 4-H Clubs.
Bill loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, crabbing and wildlife. He truly loved and spoiled his many dogs, cats and horses. He enjoyed mowing his acres of lawn with his “co-pilot monkey” on his Texas Longhorn mower while donning his special western hat.
Bill was a very generous man who sought no acknowledgment. He was known for his warm smile and the twinkle in his eye. He had great sense of humor and loved telling jokes.
Of all the things Bill loved, he loved his family most. While hanging out with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, he often said to Faye, “Hon, look what we created. We are so lucky!”
Bill was a hard worker. He was a business owner of Alph Alpha Air, B&B Excavators, Green Sweep and Captain of his commercial crab boat the “Sea Gypsy” (for which he always wanted to change the name to “For Sale”). Some of you may also know him from his employment through Engle Farms, building houses with Farlin Sahli, the Building Supply Store with Fred Moore, Libbey Construction, Ed’s Construction, Corey Johnson Construction and Kreig’s Construction.
Bill is survived by Faye Marlene Borgman Engle, his loving wife of 63 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Carl “Terry” and Gina Engle; daughter, Tammy Engle Glover; former daughter-in-law, Kim Tresslar; former son-in-law, Steve Glover; one sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Dave Brown; four grandchildren, Dayle Wofford, Wesley Engle, Stevie Glover, Alexa Glover and Eddie Fasolo; seven great grandchildren, Camden Glover, Maci Wofford, Xander Engle, Cruz Fasolo, Bentley Abrahamse, Brody Abrahamse and Gavin Fasolo.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Anna B. Engle
