Blaine topples Oak Harbor / Boys basketball

Blaine buried the visiting Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team with a 28-point fourth quarter on the way to an 84-53 win Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Eight different Borderites scored in the fourth period to help Blaine (3-0) double its advantage from the third quarter in the non-league win.

Matt Kelley paced the Oak Harbor attack with 11 points, 9 coming in the first half. Will Rankin and Mason Myers had 8; Brock Boyer, Garrett Level and Gabe McLeod 6 each; Kenneth Tofah 4 and Izayah Jannini 2.

Josh Russ tallied 23 points, 9 in the fourth quarter, to lead Blaine.

“We played with a lot more energy than in the Woolley game (last Saturday),” Oak Harbor coach Nate Sullivan said. “We played hard defensively, crashed the boards and shared the ball on the offensive end.

“We need to learn to value possession of the basketball. We had far too many unforced turnovers, which lead to easy points for our opponents.”

Oak Harbor (1-2) hosts unbeaten South Whidbey (4-0) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
