After a record-setting offensive football career at Oak Harbor High School, 2017 Wildcat graduate Princeton Lollar will play defense at the Division I level for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Lollar recently signed a letter of intent to play for the Rebels after starring at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona.

Lollar, who set single-season and career rushing and touchdown records while playing for Oak Harbor, rarely played defense in high school.

He switched to linebacker at Scottsdale and earned all-league and all-region honors. He expects to play middle linebacker for the Rebels.

Lollar, who is 6-2, 240 pounds, was recruited by a number of schools across the country but settled on UNLV after making an official recruiting trip there several weeks ago.

“My visit…really sealed the deal,” he said. “Great hospitality from all the coaches, (they) brought me in and made me feel at home. And, I mean, Las Vegas is a beautiful city — What more could I ask for?”

New UNLV coach Marcus Arroyo, coming off a successful stint as the defensive coordinator at the University of Oregon, reached out to Lollar.

“(Arroyo) told me he needs a middle linebacker that’s ready to rock…and I told him, ‘Let’s do it,’” Lollar said.

The UNLV staff told Lollar they need a player who “can really fly around and make plays all over the field.”

“I feel that I’m definitely a guy that can go out there and do it all at a high level,” he said.

Playing running back in high school, according to Lollar, has made him a better linebacker.

“I know every move,” he said. “I kinda feel that I’m a step ahead with whoever is coming out of the backfield on opposing teams.”

Lollar said he will most likely major in psychology or kinesiology.

Wednesday, Feb. 5, was national signing day for college football players.

Lollar was one of 28 players signed by UNLV. Recruiting sites Rivals and 247Sports ranked the Rebels’ class as first and second, respectively, in the Mountain West Conference. They also ranked the class as the school’s best ever.
