Postseason play begins this weekend for Oak Harbor and Coupeville high school winter athletes.
Wrestling
The Oak Harbor wrestling teams get things started Friday, Feb. 7, at their respective sub-regional tournaments.
The girls, competing at Bellingham’s Squalicum High School, wrestle at 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
The boys, competing at Snohomish High School, start at 5 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The top four finishers in each weight class for both the girls and boys move on to the regional tournament.
The regional tournaments are 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15. The girls wrestle at Sedro-Woolley High School and the boys at Bonney Lake. The top four earn state berths.
State is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22, at the Tacoma Dome.
Boys Basketball
Coupeville, the North Sound Conference’s No. 5 seed, hosts Mount Baker, the Northwest Conference’s fourth seed, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in an elimination game to earn the final berth into the district tournament.
The winner moves on to the double-elimination portion of the eight-team district playoffs and travels to King’s at 7:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, for the first round.
District continues Feb. 12, 14 and 15. The top five teams advance to the bi-district tournament Feb. 17, 18, 20, 21 and 22. The top three teams at bi-district are state bound.
The Oak Harbor boys basketball team did not qualify for the postseason.
Girls Basketball
Coupeville is the North Sound Conference’s No. 3 seed and goes to Nooksack Valley, the Northwest Conference’s No. 2 seed, at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, for a first-round, district tournament game.
Like the boys, the district tournament is an eight-team, double-elimination affair, runs through Feb. 15 and sends five to bi-district.
The Oak Harbor girls team did not qualify for the district tournament.
Swim and Dive
Oak Harbor will compete in the district meet Feb. 12, 14 and 15 at the Snohomish Aquatics Center.
The top four finishers in each event and those with state qualifying marks advance to the state meet.
Oak Harbor diver John Blankman has a state-qualifying score and automatically earns a state berth.
State is Feb. 21 and 22 at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.
Cheer
The Coupeville cheer squad is competing in the Universal Cheerleaders Association national tournament this weekend in Orlando.
The Oak Harbor team is competing in the state tournament Friday, Feb. 7, and Saturday at Battle Ground High School.
The Wildcats participated in the National Cheerleaders Association tournament last weekend and placed fifth and sixth in their two performances in the intermediate non-tumbling division.
