An Anacortes man is wanted on a $75,000 arrest warrant after failing to show up for a hearing at which the deputy prosecutor was going to ask that he be held in jail.

Prosecutors had charged Carl Nyberg, 46, with assault in the third degree, a domestic violence crime, in Island County Superior Court last November.

Nyberg was accused of breaking his girlfriend’s nose with a hairbrush at her North Whidbey home, according to court documents.

Then in February of this year, Nyberg was arrested in Anacortes for assaulting the same woman.

Nyberg was charged in Skagit County Superior Court with assault in the second degree, intimidating a witness, a protection order violation and harassment, according to court documents. He posted $100,000 bail.

In court Monday, Deputy Prosecutor Michael Safstrom pointed out that Nyberg has two other pending cases in Island County Superior Court and a history of failing to appear.

In 2018, police pulled Nyberg over in Oak Harbor and found a pipe bomb, an alleged homemade silencer, a semi-automatic AR-15 style weapon and a handgun in his car, according to court documents. He was charged with unlawful possession or control of an explosive device and unlawfully carrying a loaded pistol in a vehicle.

Nyberg posted $50,000 bail in the case, but later forfeited it after failing to appear for a court hearing, according to court documents.

In 2019, prosecutors charged Nyberg with possession of methamphetamine. He posted $50,000 bail in that case, but also forfeited it after failing to appear in court, court documents indicate.
