David Joseph King passed away peacefully at his home in Oak Harbor, Wash., after a courageous battle with multiple cancers. He was surrounded by his family, girlfriend Jean Montgomery and lifelong friend, Dr. Craig Tanner.

David was born on July 13, 1969 in Oak Harbor to Thomas D. King and Philomena (Keating) King. Born into a military family, David attended schools in Oak Harbor, Lakehurst, N.J. and Beeville, Texas. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1987.

He then attended Lake Washington Voc Tech and studied technical illustration, becoming a detailer, CAD operator and architectural designer in 1989. He later took Tekla Structures Training and was a steel detailer, CAD and Tekla structures operator. He was an intelligent, creative and intuitive designer. During his career he was employed by Architects NW, Woodinville, Ore., Detailers, Inc, Oak Harbor, Wash., Iron Works, Inc, Oak Harbor, and was periodically self-employed contracting his services.

To those who knew and loved him, David was an intelligent, quiet guy who had a gift for researching and debating on any subject with anyone willing to engage. He had a great sense of humor and jovial laugh that will be remembered by many. He enjoyed gardening, photography, cooking, music and spending time with his friends and family. He cherished his nieces and nephew and enjoyed finding unique cards and gifts that fit their individual personalities.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas D. King; his grandparents, John and Mary Keating and Richard and Althea King; and uncle, Michel King.

He is survived by his mother, Philomena King; brothers, Richard (Nikole) King, of North Bend, Wash., and Keith (Rachel) King, of Arlington, Wash.; longtime girlfriend Jean Montgomery; nieces, Sarah, Hannah and Ashlan King; and nephew, Thomas King. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles and cousins in Newfoundland, British Columbia, and Allentown, Penn.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral Mass was celebrated July 31, 2020 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Pluth presiding for family and close friends. After a graveside prayer service, David was laid to rest near his father at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
