Oak Harbor is soon to have a “secret” billiards room for those who want to sip an artisan cocktail, play pool, feel sophisticated and perhaps a bit naughty, reminiscent of the days of the prohibition.
Tossin’ Axes on Midway Boulevard has just two weeks remaining on an IndieGoGo fundraising campaign for basement remodeling, a billiards table and a new large, neon sign. Show support at tinyurl.com/2wk59jxx.
The idea came from a community suggestion, said Daniel Cadwell, co-owner of the space. Beneath the axe-throwing targets and arcade games sits a previously underutilized basement.
Guests will pass through a bookcase to reveal the hidden lounge.
“I intend to remodel and decorate the Hideaway with parlor chairs and carpeting to elaborate on the speakeasy vibes,” Cadwell said in a press release. “It will be loosely based on a cross between a ladies’ soirée area and gentlemen’s club.”
These changes will start right at the end of the campaign, he said. Cadwell plans on expanding through next year until the Speakeasy Lounge can feature constantly changing themed décor and drinks.
Tossin’ Axes opened in June of 2023 as an axe-throwing center and arcade and was sold to Cadwell and Donna DeBonis in September of this year. To this day, the duo often hears from people in the community that they don’t know where it is.
The new signage will help, DeBonis said.
