Whidbey Island Grown now delivers

Customers can now have farm-fresh veggies purchased on the Whidbey Island Grown Food Hub delivered.

Customers who live within the Langley or Clinton ZIP codes can now have their box of farm-fresh veggies, dairy products and other items purchased on the Whidbey Island Grown Food Hub delivered straight to their front door.

Starting last week, the Food Hub expanded its service by opening orders for home delivery in 98260 and 98236. Previously, shoppers have picked up their boxes at the Whidbey Island Fairgrounds in Langley, Mutiny Bay Blues Farmstand in Freeland, Scenic Isle Farm in Coupeville and Encinas Construction in Oak Harbor.

Shannon Bly, the organization’s executive director, said it’s all about starting small. The goal, eventually, is to offer delivery everywhere on Whidbey, but she acknowledged that some places are further away than others on the rural island, and more than one vehicle would need to be used. Whidbey Island Grown is currently leasing a van from a farmer to complete the South End deliveries.

The next step, Bly said, would be to add Freeland to the delivery route.

She encourages customers with the eligible ZIP codes to change their distribution location to delivery. If they are not home at the time of their delivery, they should leave behind a cooler and ice pack on their doorstep.
