The Northwest Agriculture Business Center will host an educational workshop for producers interested in micro-distilling. The workshop will run from Friday, June 12 through Saturday, June 13 at the Padilla Bay Foundation in Skagit County.
Nationally recognized distilling experts will teach the basics of small-scale artisan distilling, now legal in Washington.
David Bauermeister, executive director of NABC, said, “Trends in the wine and microbrewery industries suggest locally produced high quality products are being accepted and sought after by consumers. Fruit brandies and vodkas are opportunities and possible answers to farmers’ lingering question of what to do with the portion of the state’s fruit crops or potatoes that can’t be sold on the market.” There are currently about 100 distilleries throughout the United States today, including Washington’s first distillery, Dry Fly Distilling in Spokane.
