Families of active duty Whidbey Island Naval Air Station staff embarked on the USS Nimitz June 13 for a family day cruise and aircraft demonstration.

The event was performed in conjunction with scheduled training flights and friends and family members pay out of their own pocket to board, according the NAS Whidbey public affairs office.

The purpose of the demonstration is to offer a look into the working life of service members and encourage public understanding and community awareness of the Navy.
