Three students from HomeConnection in Oak Harbor will be taking their National History Day projects on the road to Washington, D.C.
Megan Maronde, Conner Quijano and Adrianna Royal will present their winning projects to the public Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Clover Valley Elementary School.
All three competed at the state level on May 7, earning second place awards, and advancing them to the nationals in Washington, D.C. in June.
The National History Day competition is open to students in grades six to 12 all over the nation.
Two of the award-winning students have ties to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
Quijano is the son of Lt. Cmdr. Amanda Quijano, Navy Reserve, and Aviation Maintenance Administrationman/Naval Air Crewman Michael Quijano, VQ-1 quality assurance supervisor.
Maronde is the daughter of Lt. Brad Maronde, Assistant Maintenance officer, Commander, Electronic Attack Wing Pacific.
HomeConnection is the only high school in the state with three or more projects advancing to the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest, which will be held June 12-16 at the University of Maryland.
