Capt. Mike Nortier, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island commanding officer, receives a rebate check of $530,596 from Puget Sound Energy as a result of four years of energy conservation programs and projects that will save 1.23 million KWH per year, equivalent to 117 average homes. Projects included changing street and parking lot lights to LED, efficiency improvements to the Fleet and Family Support Center, Fleet Readiness Center Northwest and the Central Steam Plant. The presentation was held at Admiral Nimitz Hall galley on Earth Day with multiple cleanup events to raise awareness and promote positive environmental practice.
