Retired chiefs dinner and dance canceled

The Whidbey Island Retired Chief Petty Officers Association dinner and dance scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 has been canceled.

According to Bud Betz, vice president of the association, ticket sales to the event were weak and not enough to justify the expense of holding it this year. The annual dinner and dance is typically held the first Saturday in October.

The group meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the CPO Club on Ault Field Road in Oak Harbor. Membership is open to any retired E-7 through E-9 of U.S. armed forces, including the Coast Guard.
