Snow squelches base activities

The snowstorm moving through our area has brought life at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island nearly to a standstill.

Only essential personnel were to report to work on base Wednesday, meaning hundreds of active duty personnel and civilian employees got an unexpected day off work.

According to the NAS Whidbey website, all Fleet and Family Readiness facilities are closed Wednesday. This includes the Liberty Center, gym, Convergence Zone, Fleet and Family Support, food and beverage and child and youth programs.

Admiral Nimitz Hall is to remain open for on-base food service.

Charles Porter gate is open for access to the Ault Field base.
