Jesse Stensland’s article in the News-Times on Sept. 23 does not tell the whole story. We have just passed a library Levy and I don’t think this community can afford another at this time.

She talks about the $300,000 home having to pay only $27 more per year. Now let’s add to that the rest of the levies and also consider the fact the average real estate price in Island County is not $300,000, but closer to $600,000.

I paid $1,539.84 for special levies in 2009, so let’s tell the story the way it exists. One more levy increases my levy balance another $54 and also yours. Everybody has their hand out for more, however, times are tough. Bank interest is at an all-time low and the stock market is in the toilet. Those of us (retired citizens) who depend on our investments for income cannot continue to pay more and more just because you think it is only 9 cents per thousand. Let’s add them all together and be realistic.
