When I first moved to Whidbey Island, I was told from multiple sources that I should not enroll my child in Oak Harbor schools. I was told to stay in the Coupeville or Anacortes boundaries. I never got a reason for these prejudices, just the warning. I began working for the Oak Harbor School District later that year. I have yet to learn the reasons for the warnings. I am thankful for them, though.
Without those warnings, I don’t think I would have scrutinized the district as much as I have. I don’t think I would have searched for the faults I was warned about. I don’t think I would have listened to my colleagues so closely.
I want to take this moment in time to thank my hard-working colleagues for all of their support over the years. I want to thank them, also, for their dedication to our profession and our students. I believe all of the employees of the Oak Harbor School District do the best they can for this community, and I am proud to stand among them.
Thank you, Oak Harbor, for your commitment to education. I look forward to your continued support through the years.
