Catalogs and junk mail vanish

It worked, and we are now 98 percent junk mail free. On Nov. 28 I wrote a letter in the Whidbey News-Times complaining about all the junk mail I receive, especially catalogs (10 to 20 per day), and how the USPS fails to return this junk back to the sender. I also recommended “Catalog Choice” at www.catalogchoice.org/dashboard, to eliminate catalogs.

Well I investigated one other letter writer’s suggestion, the “Direct Marketing Association,” at www.dmachoice.org/dma/static/about_dma.jsp. This is a free service to eliminate junk mail. I filled out all the online forms to stop all junk mail, such as catalogs, magazine offers, other mail offers (this includes donation requests, bank offers, retail promotions and more) and credit offers. This is a one time entry for each category and you can go back and modify it, if your preferences change.

There is an informative write up under “About DMAchoice” and “Learn More,” on the top menu. It explains why there should not be a national Do Not Mail registry. I can see them crying, all the way to the bank, teardrops big around as trash can lids.
