I read with interest the May 9 article, “Fingers Point at Lack of Progress.”

Hasn’t anybody in our city’s leadership learned that trying to get a city council to agree on a single issue is the equivalent of herding kittens?

We have a city administrator. Isn’t setting the prioritized list his job?

Oak Harbor seems to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to become “cute,” just like Coupeville. Hey folks, Oak Harbor isn’t Coupeville, it is the commercial heart of Island County with one major employer, “The Navy.” Until such time as we have another “major employer” we should spend our energies making sure the Navy has what it deems as necessary.

Our mayor needs to look farther down the road and find another major employer. Oak Harbor is ideally situated to be the home of some “skunk works” for companies such as Boeing and Microsoft, let’s start working to that end and get another major employer or two. The only other economic force in Oak Harbor are retirees and if the Navy left that’s a pretty weak economic force for this city to depend on.

Lets assign the responsibility for the jobs that need to be done and let’s get on with it.
