In rebuttal to A. Morrison’s letter regarding the Vanderzicht Pool and the problems that were enumerated in that letter, I would like to stress that we are lucky to have such a facility on Whidbey Island.
I truly wonder to what pool Ms. Morrison goes. I am in Oak Harbor enjoying the water aerobics program 4 to 5 times a week. It is my experience that the pool is clean and the employees and instructors are knowledgeable and courteous, never rude.
I think one must keep in mind the fact that the pool is more than 27 years old. It is true that the dressing rooms would benefit from a good refurbishing but they are definitely NOT “disgusting.” What money is available to the pool seems to me to be used wisely in maintaining the pool and hiring summer employees for swim lessons.
I’m a senior woman but derive much joy from watching the many youngsters who begin their summer afraid of the water and grow into safe and capable swimmers. As an aside, we all have heard that childhood obesity is on the rise. There is no better exercise than swimming to keep the muscles long and lean.
Please vote yes on the pool levy. Without our pool many people would not have access to healthy exercise and water safety lessons. Please don’t allow the pool to close its doors.
