I am writing this note to bring attention to an ongoing problem.

I live in Crockett Lake Estates just south of Coupeville. It is a nice, quiet community and generally safe and trouble free. Lately, though our community has been plagued by wandering dogs. Do not get me wrong by what I am about to say, because I am a loving dog owner myself. My dog is kept safe and sound in a fenced yard and does not create problems for anyone. A lot of my neighbors are caring dog owners, also. I am addressing the residences of Crockett Lake Estates who do not keep their dogs under control.

I’ve seen the occasional roaming dog over the last 20 years I’ve lived in this community. Over the last year, there’s been more than few roaming animals.

These roaming canines knock over our garbage cans, rip open the bags and feast on our trash. I’ve pulled a large pallet across the entrance to the area I keep my trash cans, but the dogs still get through. I’m now installing a hinged gate.

I’m not the only one with complaints about these roaming animals. And they scare my children.

Unfortunately, Animal Control can’t do anything about the dogs unless I know where they live. I’ve been advised, though, that if I feel any member of my family is threatened or in danger from these dogs I may use whatever means necessary to protect my family.

If only the owners of these dogs would obey the leash law, I’m sure everyone would have better peace of mind.
