Looking out my office window this spring, I noticed some green patches of moss beginning their relentless crusade upon the roof of our museum. Later, toward the end of our “sort-of summer,” it seemed their advance was looking mighty successful. Time to call in the pros.

Beth, of Fine Line Painting, came by and assessed the situation. All the while, I have to admit, I was getting nervous about having to find a large sum of money (it’s a big roof!) for all the hard work that was facing Beth and her skilled crew. She assured me she would give us a good deal, recognizing we are a nonprofit organization, and that historic preservation is important to her. She scheduled an appointment, and, in passing, mentioned that this one was “on her” — no charge!

Beth, you really made my day! Your generosity and great work in your community are truly appreciated, and make a huge difference. Thank you for your help, and for the expert work of your professional crew. No more green!

While I’m at it, I would also like to thank Bill Piggot and his crew of volunteers from the Central Whidbey Lions for replacing several stair steps on our front porch this summer. Our Lions clubs are always ready to jump in and lend a hand. Well done, gentlemen!

There are so many amazing volunteers in our midst, that do so much to make our Island such a great place to live, I couldn’t possibly thank you all by name. I thank you here, and I encourage everyone to show appreciation whenever you see them in action.
