Free pig roast raises thousands

It is so nice to see in this turbulent time that our giving community has once again come through and made the second annual Fidalgo Avenue Block Party and Free Pig Roast a roaring success.

It is so nice to see in this turbulent time that our giving community has once again come through and made the second annual Fidalgo Avenue Block Party and Free Pig Roast a roaring success.

Over 3,000 people enjoyed another beautiful summer afternoon which featured music, games, events and a free pig buffet. By raffle tickets, donations and beer and wine sales we were able to raise and give away once again close to $10,000 to the Help House and Red Cross. This can only be accomplished by the generosity of local businesses and the time and effort of hundreds of volunteers.

The Fidalgo Avenue Merchants Association would like to thank Island Thrift as our major sponsor. This year Island Thrift purchased all the food which was given away, including 1,000 pounds of pork. Whidbey Island Bank, Les Schwab and P&L Construction sponsored the climbing wall, bungee run and dunk tank.

We would also like to thank Albertson’s and Saar’s Market Place, 7-Eleven, New Leaf, Koetje Agency, The three great bands which preformed (Woodrush, Johnny Bulldog and Mid Life Crisis), Kyle Blevins from Superior Audio Technology, dunk tank volunteers including Mayor Jim Slowik, Penn Cove Shellfish, Gallery Golf Course, Diamond Rentals, Coachman, Smoke Tree BBQ, The BBQ Joint, People’s Choice Carpet and Upholstery Care, Capt. David, MWR, the city of Oak Harbor and all the merchants and volunteers who participated to make this a successful event.

We couldn’t do it without your help.
