Global warming cause uncertain

The comment by Dr. Mary K. Sandford (“Letters,” Sept. 20) implying Barbara Bailey’s “denying the validity of overwhelming scientific evidence does not change reality,” may be a bit of spin. Anyone who is sufficiently open minded to take the time to research the available data will find that the actual scientific data on global warming is anything but overwhelming. Many reputable and well know scientists have published and seriously question the current “progressive” thinking that global warming is primarily caused by man (sorry, women, too). You are entitled to your opinion, and indeed, I respect your opinion, however it demands agreement. You didn’t indicate the field of your PH.D. I’m wondering if it was in hyperbolic journalism. If that is the case, are you preparing to enter politics? From reading your letter, you are certainly well qualified.

‘Big box’ would have meant jobs

Regarding “Island unemployment soars,” Whidbey News-Times, Sept. 20.

I can’t help but wonder if we’d OK’d the big box store, if more jobs would have been available and people would not be going off island to buy groceries.

Check cashing businesses at either end of town are a sign of certain death, unless you act, and quickly to reverse the decline.
