Let’s not wait for more accidents on Highway 20 | Letter

In July 2010, I sent an email to State Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen and Reps. Norma Smith and Barbara Bailey, concerning safety issues on Highway 20, starting at Race Road to Jacob Road.

In July 2010, I sent an email to State Sen. Mary  Margaret Haugen and Reps. Norma Smith and Barbara Bailey, concerning safety issues on Highway 20, starting at Race Road to Jacob Road.

In my email, I referenced problems such as no road shoulders, no left hand turn lanes at the dump and Parker Road, etc. The response I received from Sen. Haugen sounded like we need more accidents to qualify to be moved up on the priority list. Close calls and road skid marks don’t count.

Since Central Whidbey does not have a large population to complain and get our representatives’ attention, we need a total Whidbey voice. Most Whidbey  commuters use this section of highway to commute at one time or the other. Please help and get the message to our representatives before one of us becomes a number on the state’s highway accident list.  Nothing is planned for this section of highway unless we get the state’s attention. It’s more important than grooves in the highway. Please contact your representatives.
