Editor,
Navy: you’ve done enough harm. Stop destroying, poisoning our environment.
As a noted historian and Island County citizen Mr. Thom Gunn stated in a letter in support of President Eisenhower’s 1959 perspective of the growing influence of the military industrial complex, that being the M.I.C., was a “malignant tumor sucking the life out of our country.”
With its bloated budget, the Navy can’t even protect a one-of-a-kind national historical reserve that was celebrated and codified into law by Congress and the community.
Passing on that unique environment and historical connections is valuable and in need of protection. What are you gonna pass on to the next generation, your noise-cancelling headphones and ratty, old “I love jet noise ” T-shirts and go hike the reserve?
People need the beauty and history of the reserve protected.
In real estate 101, there’s a concept about determining the “highest and best use of property ” because all property is not equal.
Jets don’t belong in Island County.
