I have a response to professor Bob Ortblad and his idea for building a tunnel to Whidbey Island: Keep your ideas to yourself.

A tunnel would ruin this island. It would become overrun and a new Mercer or Bainbridge island.

The ferry is what keeps this area from becoming overrun, increasing pressures to build, build and build, taking away the rural quality that makes the island so special.

In addition, I believe there is an earthquake fault line running right through there. I can grouse with the best of them about our ferry service, but I’ll take it any day over a tunnel.
