Editor,
As a person with retinitis pigmentosa, aka “tunnel vision,” I find the title to the article “Tunnel vision: Time for ‘golden chains’” shockingly insensitive.
While the alternative usage of focused attention does exist, it also does not really apply. This term seems to have been used without thought simply to speak to the “tunnel” at Bayview Nursery.
I appreciate the word play but that in no way lowers the shocking insensitivity this displays to those who live with any form of this medical condition. I allow that there was no malice. Ignorance is not an excuse either. P
lease do not repeat such insensitivity to those with life challenges. Understand what you are writing, editing and publishing.
