Editor,
I just read Commissioner Bacon’s opinion letter in the Whidbey News-Times (July 5 Sound Off). I understand her concern for treating all Americans the same when it comes to rights. And I agree, the Constitution grants these rights to all of us.
Unfortunately, this subject is often twisted and “equality” is distorted by substituting the term “equity.” The entire subject has been completely overblown by Democrats wanting to solicit the votes of uninformed minorities. Her opinion letter is typical of the brainwashing put forth on this issue.
Neither of her examples makes a valid point. Especially the ludicrous apple tree dissertation. Her example of minorities not getting COVID shots infers that they don’t have the intelligence to simply go to a local drug store and get one. This demonstrates the racial bias of the typical liberal. Ironically, the majority of us shouldn’t have gotten the shots in first place, and especially the boosters, as more harm came from the so-called vaccines than the virus itself. So I would venture to say the folks that didn’t get them were smarter than most of us.
The majority of Americans do not give a second thought to the race of an individual. We are all just people. Our character is what makes us unique and different from one another. Unfortunately, folks like Commissioner Bacon want to keep us at each others throats. And in the last several years they have undone much of the progress made in race relations. They have set us back decades. Liberals are the most prejudiced of all. Her letter is a perfect example of it.
