Letter: Teach students to respect differences

Editor,

The story “Parents question LGBTQ+ student group” states: “As emerged from the meeting, some parents chose to enroll their kids in Home Connections — a public school and home school hybrid — to keep politics out of their kids’ education.”

The key part of that quote is the “public school” portion. Home Connections is still funded by public dollars and is run by the school district. The district has rules on student clubs. This group has complied with these rules. The children of those parents can opt to form their own groups under the same rules.

At some point, these people’s children will be out in the world having to deal with the existence of people different from themselves. Now is the time to teach them how to deal respectfully with each other.

It’s not that hard.
